Saturday, June 14:
Continued our trek
north towards Alice Springs. We camped out by about 300kms north at the Marryat
Rest Area 52kms south of the South Australian Northern Territory border.
There were several
people already there so we decided to camp on the edge of the creek bed under
some large gum trees.
I wanted Wal to back
up on the hard track surface and back the van in but he decided to drive
forward along the creek bed. Next second poor Rosa was left trying the drag The
Palace through the sand but it just sank to the axles.
We were bogged in
stupid sand! With some leaves and branches shoved under Rosa’s back wheels we
finally freed it and The Palace and set up camp. No camp fire as wood was
scarce.
