Thursday, July 10 to Sunday, July 13:
Left Matranaka for
Katherine and on the way called into Cutta Cutta Caves - very expensive at $20 each conc to go into the caves. Interesting but Buchan is much better.
At Katherine we had booked into Manbulloo Caravan Park which is on the
Victoria Highway 11kms from town.
This is a fabulous
spot – lots of huge trees which formed a canopy over out section of the park
including the toilet area. It apparently was used as an Army base during WW11.
We arrived on Thursday night and were lucky to hear a great country and western
singer belt out great music for an hour and half. Apparently he does it every
Thursday night at the park courtesy of the owners. We gave him a donation for
his effort.
Earlier we went
shopping to replenish our supplies but had to be careful as we can’t take fruit
and veg into WA.
Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12:
At Katherine, we
booked a 2 gorge tour yesterday so headed off for the tour. It was interesting
and the commentary was good but the gorges are not as exciting at the West
MacDonnell Ranges. It cost us $79 each which we thought was a bit expensive for
what we got.
Sunday, July 13:
A rest day after we
drove around to look at where we had stayed in 1982 – it is now a parkland. Not
a town I would want to live in – it seems to lack a real spirit.
