Saturday, June 21:
As we only had a short
distance to go we spent the morning downloading photos etc at Henbury
Meteorites. We didn’t have power or phone coverage but that didn’t matter. We
almost caught up with things.
The drive into Alice
was only short but seemed to take ages. The terrain changed from rolling sand
dunes to rock ridges of all shapes and sizes.
We arrived at
Wanngardi Park about 3pm and set up camp. Then things started to go wrong. I
plugged the cord into the pole and before we even hooked it on to the van it
had blown and the guy next door came rushing out. After a couple of goes, Wal finally worked
out it was a faulty plug and told the manager to ether fix it or give us our
money back.
The switch was fixed
but the power kept blowing because it was 15amp between 2 sites and the circuit
breaker was 16amp. The guy next door had everything going so when we turned on
the kettle off went the power.
Thankfully that guy
left the next day and Wal had a discussion with the manager and suggested the
wiring be fixed or perhaps it would be best not to put anyone next to us. He
opted for the latter which meant we have had no more problems.
It’s a laid-back park
– great bush setting with a towering range behind us. Lots of permanents in
other areas but no bother to us. The facilities are spotless. We’re glad we
chose here rather that right in Alice.
