At last the planning of the last 2 years is being put to good use as we are now on the road heading west.
This is our first day and everything went pretty well - well almost.
it was 5 degrees when we left Kilsyth at 9.45am this morning. thank goodness we were is Rosa and not Alfred or Dame Nellie which don't have heaters.
We decided to pick up the Calder via the Western Ring Road and its is the first time I have not seen closed lanes and workers running every where.
Everything went really well until we stop for lunch at 12 o'clock at the roadside stop at Ravenswood south of Bendigo.
I was busy trying to light the the gas burner which lit beautifully then went out. I tried again but turned on the wrong burner and wondered why it wouldn't lite. I was getting crappy about it when Wal noticed I was pushing in the griller button. it had lit but was in the griller and was having a great time setting the paper in their on fire! Oh well. fireman Wal fixed it for me.
After lunch it was off for St Arnaud via Marong which was a little bit of a detour but took us along roads we had not travelled before.
We arrive at St Arnaud at 2.15 and took a few minutes to get the van level as we are on quite a slope.
We then wandered around town, checked out the venue and visited the museum in the old fires station where we meet Mervynne who is organising the RHSV seminar for the RHSV. St Arnaud was founded on gold and has some magnificent buildings - particularly the town hall.
I'll spend the day at the seminar while Wal will wander around and take some images for this blog and of course have a rest from all that driving.
